Nantucket Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Inc. is founded on the belief that everyone in our community, young and old, of varying emotional and physical ability can participate in many different ways in equine assisted activities. At SeaPony Farm everyone can share in the extraordinary world of horses as our companions and friends.
SeaPony Farm’s goal is to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equestrian facility to foster the physical and emotional healing of children and adults with disabilities. The focus is to have a professionally operated facility that fosters the programs and activities available while at the same time maintaining a warm, friendly and accepting environment. The hope is to have every participant, volunteer, and visitor experience the joy of riding, the fulfillment of helping someone with a disability and the incredible healing nature and companionship of the horses.
To accomplish that goal, SeaPony Farm will follow all guidelines and standards suggested by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), www.narha.org. The North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) was founded in 1969 to promote and support equine-assisted activities in the U.S. and Canada. NARHA assists Centers in several ways through their accreditation process for the benefit of individuals with disabilities. The standards provide a basis for facilities to operate in a safe environment and provide guidelines for selecting participants suitable and appropriate for equine-assisted activities.
SeaPony Farm operates as a non-profit facility. The majority of the staff working at SeaPony Farm are volunteer, who are carefully selected and trained.
The equine-assisted programs and sessions are supervised by the Program Director, Catherine Conte, a Massachusetts Licensed Riding Instructor and a NARHA Certified Instructor.
