I would like to sincerely thank the financial contributors to SeaPony Farm. Their gifts have gone directly to the program and helped us continue our mission.
This year we received two wonderful and most generous donations from The Horne Foundation based in Mill Valley, California, and the Bay State Federal Savings Charitable Foundation of Boston Massachusetts.
The Star Program of Nantucket have also received donations from organizations for our riding program and our new winter Play Date Session in the form of Scholarship Funds which directly pay for the participants to attend.
Friends of Nantucket Schools also donated funds for a particular participant to attend the program.
Thank you is not enough to express my gratitude to the following individuals and businesses. Awesome and inspiring to have these individuals come forward to help our beginnings. The support we have received has directly touched and changed the quality of the lives of the children, adults and families who benefit from our programs.
I would like to thank, Brian Sullivan, on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Stavnes, for they’re most generous and kind donation.
I would like to thank Attorney Thomas F. Holt Jr., Charles J. Dyer and Greg Youman, of the Law Firm, K&L Gates, Boston, Ma. for their Pro Bono representation of SeaPony Farm concerning our legal disagreements with the Nantucket Land Council.
Also a thank you to Attorney William F. Hunter, of the local law firm of Vaughan, Dale, Hunter, Stetina and Beaudette, P.C., for his professional representation and courtesy with his legal fees.
I would like to thank Robert Marhefka of Marhefka and Jablonski, CPA in Worcester, Ma. for his professional representation and courtesy with his fees.
I would like to thank Mr. McGarvey, of McGarvey Masonry, for his in kind donation of SeaPony Farm’s Barn Foundation.
This year was a transitional year for SeaPony Farm. In June of 2008 we moved the herd to their new home located on Crooked Lane. The horses and mini donkeys spent the summer in the fields getting to know their new home and each other. They are now all fast friends and companions The barn structure was under construction and finished in October so the horses and “littles” had shelter for the winter.
Catherine, "Miss Catie", suffered a catastrophic injury to her knee in June of 2008. SeaPony Farm managed to host Adam’s Camp in late June before her surgery. Unfortunately, the Program had to close for the summer while she recovered from surgery. The horses had a nice summer acclimating to their new surroundings.
Adam’s Camp 2008 was a wonderful treat and a huge amount of fun for all at SeaPony Farm with our visiting Cowboy R.J. Hobbs.
R.J. Hobbs is a 5th generation rancher/cowboy from Silver City, NM, working at Double E Ranch in Gila NM. He participated in Adam’s Camp by instructing the children in roping techniques and also took part by riding Boo on the trails with the campers. R.J. helped the children by performing many of the tasks himself; picking apples, touching his toes, touching Boo’s ears and just having an all around fun time.
We hope to have Adam’s Camp back every summer, an amazing staff who’s commitment to the children and their well being was awesome.
We brought our new arrival, Gustur to Nantucket in June 2008 as well. He came with his friend, Safir who was going to be part of the herd. However, Safir has gone to live in Maine, with a lovely woman, Jane. Jane has fallen in love with Safir and is planning on exposing her to the show ring. Safir is a beautiful mare and she may return to SeaPony Farm when she finishes her career as a show horse.
All the families and participants were so understanding and wonderfully supportive during this transitional time. Thank you and I hope we all enjoy a new beginning in the 2009 Season.
SeaPony Farm will open its spring session April 2009.
The Schedule will be posted.
This summer we are planning on hosting two camps;
Adam's Camp in June/July and
Tulgey Wood will be back in August/September.
We are looking forward to having them with us.
